‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas RadhyAllahu ‘anh narrates:
‘The Prophet SallAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam declared the payment of Sadaqatul Fitr as obligatory; it purifies the fasting person from any indecent act or speech, and is a source of feeding the poor.’ [Abu Dawud]
Giving Sadaqatul Fitr (also referred to as Zakatul Fitr or Fitrana) on the day of Eid was a practice of the Messenger of Allah SallAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam, and has been ordained for us all. Like Zakah, it establishes the bonds of unity between the rich and poor.
To cover the various ahadith mentioning the different commodities pertaining to Sadaqatul Fitr, Ummah Welfare Trust is giving donors the option of deciding how much Sadaqatul Fitr to give.
Every person eligible to pay this amount must pay not only for himself but also for his dependants, such as his children. If after knowing the Shari’i amount a person wishes to give more, then he can do so insha allah.
Ummah Welfare Trust will distribute your Sadaqatul Fitr to widowed and orphaned families on EID DAY inshaAllah.
If any of the above food items cannot be given in certain countries due to not forming part of the local diet, Ummah Welfare Trust will give an equivalent food item that does.
